Aart Jakob van Rijn

A young Dutch Deveraux agent, Aart van Rijn is based out of Amsterdam’s Zeeburgereiland, the up-and-coming artists’ quarter. An urban, metropolitan individual, Aart is at home in the cosmopolitan city. He’s an aspiring artist and a fan of the café culture.

Aart can be a little shy at times, but is generally an outgoing individual and is certainly unashamed to be himself. Whilst restrained, Aart enjoys winding down and relaxing with his close group of friends. At Deveraux Aart learnt the art of group work, but he prefers to work autonomously given the option.

Aart is on optimist, predisposed to look on the positive side of events, rather than dwindle on the unfortunate. Whilst he doesn’t always quite live up to this, he tries hard not to moan when he feels he’s been dealt a duff hand.

A design student, Aart thrives on creativity in every sphere of his life. Aside from his Deveraux career, he aspires to a future of art and design. He’s recently begun drumming , though is doubtful that he will have the conviction to see it through. Something he has been seeing through however is jogging, which has recently become his favourite pastime and, as he likes to point out, has many benefits.

Aart grew up in Haarlem, North Holland, about 20km from Amsterdam. He always knew when he grew up that he wanted to move to the city, and so following on from his graduation from the Deveraux College he was delighted to find himself stationed in Amsterdam, the capital of his home state.

At elementary school Aart had a regular knack of getting into scraps. He was insistent on standing his ground, much to the chagrin of his mother, even when it might not be the wisest thing to do. Although he was never a rough character, Aart found that Deveraux channelled his energy and taught him not to rise to others and be so easily bated.

Although he talks to his father, Aart has long harboured a distrust for him ever since he walked out on his wife and their young family in pursuit of better career prospects. In recent years he has felt guilty for initially poisoning his younger brother against his father as they grew up, something he was ware his father had long blamed his mother for.

Aart adopted Piraat, his trusty feline sidekick, as an act of liberation shortly after graduation. His mother had always maintained that animals were disease spreaders and that a cat would cover everything in the house in hair. She was resolute that they would not be getting one.
