Charles has a rugged look about him, and has cold eyes that reflect his dead personality. Charles has black hair, which is beginning to grey. He is well-built, and has a well-muscled chest. He doesn't often shave.

Charles is very cunning and clever, and although he doesn't have a sense of humour, and does not tolerate people wasting his time, he will often go out of his way to make sure somebody who has done well is suitably rewarded. He strongly believes in the old saying "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth" and holds grudges. Charles doesn't consider himself sexist, but his opinion of women has been lowered considerably since Morana Drake 'ruined' the Gargoyles, in his opinion. He doesn't share the same hatred of her as Mickey Tannenbaum, but he's keen on seeing her getting what she deserves.

Charles was born into a life that he has never discussed with his friends. Nobody knows what his real name is, nor what year he was born in. Nobody knows what his background is, or if he has any family. It seems Charles severed all ties to his old life. Mickey Tannenbaum knows the most about Charles, but even he does not know his real name. Charles isn't from Brooklyn, but he moved there when he was young, presumably without his family. Charles has siblings, and he has a photo of a young girl in his wallet. He was asked about it, once, and his answer was that it was his niece, and since he was asked he removed it from his wallet. He was a member of the original Gargoyles, during the James Mann era, and whilst he never really interacted with Kate Birchfield, he did his best not to get involved when she left. Charles phased himself out of the Gargoyles, never officially leaving. Officially leaving usually resulted in finding yourself at the bottom of a river with a lead weight attached to your feet. He currently lives in Boston, and read about Mickey Tannenbaum's arrest. He visited Mickey once, and they touched on the idea of reforming the Gargoyles. Charles took it upon himself to observe Morana Drake, to see what she'd been doing with the Gargoyles. Finding himself disgusted at the new direction Morana had taken, Charles had the urge to get involved with the criminal life once more. Ensuring that his secret identity was still secret, he soon got in touch with Mickey once more. And the rest will soon become history...
