Adelita Gabriel

Description

Appearance

Adelita is 5'9", with a muscular, curvy build that in earlier, more thin-worshipping times would likely have been called fat. But anyone who's seen Adelita's six-pack would know the falsity of that claim. Her black hair is wavy, and Adelita usually wears it down, these days, allowing it to settle on her shoulders. Her large, full lips and rather small, close-set eyes are her most memorable facial features. Adelita usually wears brown or black trousers and a colorful shirt to work. She doesn't smile needlessly, and, the corners of her mouth being naturally down turned, often appears to be frowning about something, although her most common expression is a straight face.

Personality

Adelita is a Marine through and through, and so comes with most of the typical Marine personality. She's a perfectionistic hardass when it comes to her subject, and will frequently keep students after class for extra training with a particular weapon they are having trouble with. She has a tendency towards cursing that she mostly checks in front of students. She is extremely loyal to the Corps and, since she has been assigned to Deveraux, to Deveraux as well. She also has the combat Marine temper and arrogance, and so is having a hard time connecting with her staff colleagues. However, she recognizes that what the graduates of Deveraux do is very similar - harder, even - than what she did, so she has immense respect for the Institute and those she works with. However, she will not take orders from the Senior Tutor. She has been assigned to Deveraux, but that doesn't mean she reports to school principals, dammit!

History

Adelita was raised in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood in California. Her two older sisters were both just want their parents wanted; girly, smart, and bound to get high-paying jobs and great husbands. Adelita was the exact opposite. She showed no special ability in any subject at school, except PE She refused to wear make-up and skirts, and frequently came home with mud and grass stains all over her clothes. Now, her parents didn't believe a woman's place was in the home or any old-fashioned thing like that (her mom made twice as much as her dad, actually), but they did want their little girls to act like girls. And while they tried to be supportive of Adelita's athletics, they could just never muster up the same excitement over her soccer games as they did over their other two daughters' proms and straight As.

After graduating High School, Adelita went to college on an athletic scholarship, and got a business degree she had no idea what to do with. She enlisted in the Marine Corps, since it seemed the most interesting job available, and found herself dropped into an environment that suited her perfectly. Boot camp was hell, of course, it was supposed to be, but Adelita excelled. She received multiple awards for her ability with guns and her athleticism. And once boot camp was over, Adelita continued her success. She was brought into the Special Ops program and worked there for six years, involved in such successful missions as rescuing the American embassy in Saudi Arabia when it was taken over by terrorists and destroying Niger's atomic bomb development attempt.

However, by the end of her time in Special Ops, Adelita had already been in for longer than the recommended five years (military psychologists found stays prolonged much beyond this time period had extremely negative impacts on the psychologies of soldiers), and she was assigned to teach elite weapons to future Special Ops Marines. Adelita didn't stay there long, as she was soon told she would be teaching at the Deveraux College.
