Standing at a mere 5'1'', Brooke heard just about every joke in existence related to her height back when she was in school - and was always the first to laugh at them. Then again, though often mistaken for a ditzy blonde, Brooke has never taken her appearance or other people's comments particularly seriously. Her fair, straight hair falls to her shoulders and is often messed up as a result of her not having time to do anything with it besides brush her long fringe to one side or occasionally tie it back in a ponytail. When she was in Elementary School, Brooke can remember writing down that her eyes were 'the same colour as Mom's cat', by which she meant grey, although they can occasionally look blue depending on the light.
Having never cared much for make-up or indeed dressing up much at all, Brooke's overall look is inevitably very casual, and as a result she's rarely seen out of comfortable jeans, plain tops and her favourite pair of black combat boots. Probably due to having travelled for the better part of the last twelve years, Brooke doesn't own any handbags and rarely carries much around with her - in her own words, the only accessories she really needs are her wallet, her passport, sunscreen, her dog, and, of course, a smile on her face.

Perhaps fitting with her height, Brooke was born in Lincoln, Rhode Island, a suburb of Providence in the state affectionately known as 'Little Rhody'.

Born in Perth, Australia Patrick Duffy's life was as normal as life got. He graduated high school and went on to a degree in maths. It was only when he was in his job as a Maths teacher at the local state school that his life began to get turned upside down. He was 27 when he met Amy Lysander and it was two years later that they got married. He had suspected that her job wasn't exactly normal and he slowly began to learn more about it when Amy fell pregnant with their daughter Hannah. He had thought of risks for his wife when she was in the field but not when she was at home. It was when he saw the police at his door that he realised something was wrong. Amy had been found dead in Perth Harbour. Patrick struggled through the grief process while still trying to care for his now six year old daughter. He came to the realisation that he couldn't be a full time teacher and be there for Hannah. He applied for the Math teacher position at Deveraux and relocated to Boston, moving temporarily into the staff quarters in the grounds.
Originally from Dayton, Ohio, Tyler Russell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a major in Archaeology and since then has frequently found himself working abroad, often for months at a time. Currently, he works for Alexandria University in Egypt, and first met Brooke Dawson when she took her English students on a trip to the campus. The two have been dating for almost six months, although Tyler was initially hesitant about the fifteen-year age-gap between them and still laughs whenever Brooke refers to him as her boyfriend. Gifted with a good sense of humour, Tyler is generally very easy-going and always has plenty of stories to tell about the different places he's visited.
