The Gargoyles

The Gargoyles is a name that originally belonged to a gang that spanned all the way across the East Coast a long time ago, and was eventually taken down in a Deveraux operation chiefly led by Frederik Johansson, who would later become Senior Tutor of Deveraux. The gang that currently bears the name, however, originated in a lower class neighbourhood in Brooklyn, New York, and came to life via the hand of James Mann. After a long term serving as Leader of the Gargoyles, James survived an assassination attempt on his life by Kate Birchfield, who would later become a teacher at Deveraux College, by setting Kate up to kill his second, Johnny Cunningham, instead, believing him to be Mann.

With Mann having gone into hiding, Mickey Tannenbaum, the one who had tipped Mann off with regard to Kate, became the new Leader. It was also his idea to begin to move the Gargoyles into Boston - partially because he wanted revenge on his ex-girlfriend, none other than Kate Birchfield. Having by then started to date a woman called Morana Drake, Mickey instructed her to kill his then second, Djamal Musambe, believing him to be sliding out of his control, and subsequently gave her Djamal's old position.

Mickey's obsession with tracking Kate down also led to a curiosity about Deveraux itself, causing him to kidnap Viola Madison, Kate's friend, and Rebecca Stanley, ex-wife of Frederik Johansson - not only to hurt Kate but also to obtain information. It didn't, however, go as planned, and Mickey ended up in jail. Morana Drake, on the other hand, escaped, and thus became the new Leader of the Gargoyles. Soon after, James Mann returned from hiding to try and gain control over the gang once more as well as execute a carefully planned invasion of Deveraux College. What James hadn't counted on, however, was Andrea Costigan. The young woman, who only recently had discovered she was James Mann's daughter and had been milking it for all she was worth, had just been included in her father's will and was encouraged by Morana Drake to kill James - which, eventually, she managed to do.

Now, Morana stands as the sole Leader of the Gargoyles, although it's possible that Mickey Tannebaum's recent release from prison - with prison appearing to have altered some of his ideas considerably - might put her position at risk. So far, the Gargoyles have stayed away from clashes with the Roxbury Gang. However, since Cassidy Reid recently ordered and had carried out the assassination of a prominent Gargoyle, all that is about to change...

Criminal Activities: Fronted by the Stone Corporation, the Gargoyles own several legitimate businesses such as restaurants and casinos. On the side-lines, the criminal activities they engage in include racketeering, drug trafficking, money laundering, prostitution, extortion, hijacking, fraud, black marketeering and general violence.
