Kayla Grey
Kay JayDescription
About
Kayla is conscientious six year-old and the youngest member of the James lineage, though she bears her father's surname. Kayla was unintentionally conceived, but retrospectively considered a blessing by both her mother and father, neither of which would wish to change the circumstances of her birth. She is a bright and energetic youngster, and always eager to learn and please, and would like to grow up to be the President of the United States, or a shopkeeper. Kayla finds herself doted on by her father, uncles and grandparents, but her mother is keen to ensure she does not become a spoilt, only child.

Georgina James has despised her forename since she was old enough to realise that it was antiquated at the age of eight; she often uses the name George, or Georgie informally. George accidentally fell pregnant with her partner of two years in her mid 20s, giving birth to Kayla. George struggled to adapt to the demands of motherhood at first but slowly confronted the problem, making the necessary changes in life. She is wholly devoted to her daughter and is a loving, but firm mother.
George has worked as a graphic designer at Red Line Design, a local design company in Cambridge, since she returned to work after the birth of Kayla. She's a proponent of minimalism and simple, yet intelligent design and is always sketching out designs while on the lookout for new ideas. George is very close to her eldest brother, Jake, and keen to define her own family with Kayla and her long-time partner Conner who she met at MassArt while completing her studies.
A freelance illustrator, Conner Grey studied at MassArt in Boston before settling in near-by Cambridge with his partner, George James. Conner is quick to temper, but also has a gentle side; he has a young daughter, Kayla, who means the world to him. In his spare time, of which as an illustrator he has much, Conner enjoys working out and is attempting to pen and illustrate a children's book, guided by the feedback of his young daughter.
Technology-obsessed urbanist and Bay Stater, Jake James is the Deveraux College's unorthodox Tech teacher. Jake is both an ardent follower and early adopter of technology; in terms of fashion he is a trend observer and occasional follower. He's a social creature and is rarely happier than when he is spending time around his friends and family. A laid-back soul, Jake revels in playing the joker among his peers and often struggles to take life seriously, even when he acknowledges it would be to his advantage to.
Much like his mother, Dan has very little regard for education, though he is far less bothered by what his peers think of him. His life revolves around the dance and trance music community in and around Boston where he is a popular DJ in the local music scene. Dan would be the first to say that when he's not DJing at a club he's partying at one. Following in the James-children's tradition of going off the rails in their teens and early 20s, Dan has yet to find his way in life. He is known to party a little too hard and has a predilection for recreational drugs, though he's far from being an addict.
Having failed to achieve anything by his mid 20s, Dan often finds himself the butt of many jokes between his elder siblings. He's deaf to criticism, but secretly desires to make a success of his music career - something none of his family but his mum have taken seriously. Despite this Dan is still close to his parents and siblings and enjoys a healthy relationship with them. For the most part.
A Cambridge socialite, Jamie James achieved all she aspired to by the age of 28: a nice home, a successful husband, a young family and a high standing in her social circle. Jamie traced her ancestry back to John Billington in preparation of joining the Mayflower Society, deciding against this idea immediately when she learnt that Billington was the first Englishman to be convicted of murder in Plymouth Colony, and thus the United States. Despite her superficiality, Jamie is a caring mother and often enjoys looking after her first grandchild, Kayla. Whilst not an academic personality, Jamie has been heard to boast of her children's achievement amongst friends - though she continues to bestow upon them her wisdom that the most important thing in life is enjoying it.
Robert James has long been a technology enthusiast, pursuing a long career as a software engineer after graduating summa cum laude from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Into his early 40s Robert began to peruse a change of career and found himself lecturing technology at MIT a few years later.
Robert is a family man and places great emphasis on education and career, two spheres which have been greatly at odds with the rest of his family, much to his discomfort. In recent years he has been proud of his eldest son and daughter as he watched them turn their lives round and pursue direction and career. He is hopeful his youngest son, Dan, will follow suit but does his utmost to support him and his path in live regardless.
