Leah Smith

If anyone were to meet Leah in the street, they'd tell you she has shoulder-length, deep red hair and disconcerting, cold blue eyes. The real Leah, however, is concealed behind her dyed hair and contact lenses. In reality, she has slightly wavy, dark brown hair, a pale complexion and bright, beautiful silver eyes. Her face is equally beautiful and delicate, once complimented by a sweet, endearing smile - now, however, that smile is rare, and her face has a tragic look about it. Tall and curvy, Leah is also reasonably muscular but prefers to hide it behind loose or billowy clothing. Once upon a time, however, she loved to wear high heels to show off her height and expensive clothes to compliment her figure. The only aspect of her old identity that remains now is the sweet, flowery perfume she's worn since she was teenager.

Joy Lloyd had always been a fun-loving and sunny student, even causing some to brand her as slightly ditzy back at Deveraux College. This, however, was far from the case - intelligent and brave, Joy ended up graduating near the top of her class before becoming a Region Silver agent. She wasn't without her faults, of course: Joy had a quick temper and a mood that could change within the blink of an eye, which could have serious consequences due to the fact that she'd always been quite strong physically. She also had a habit of jumping to conclusions and speaking without thinking, often leading her to offend people without meaning to. The sweeter side of her personality occasionally surfaced, particularly when she was around animals, but she also wasn't above using sweetness as well as her looks to her own advantage if necessary.

Whilst manipulating people in such a way is something that Joy still does under the guise of Leah Smith, she is now often been described as incapable of feeling emotions at all. Cold and unforgiving, her morals and ethics are somehow less important to her now, and she drowns out the deep depression she feels with the adrenaline of her various missions. If anything still remains from the fun-loving girl back at Deveraux, it's her strong - albeit, slightly twisted - sense of justice and a fondness for animals that has never completely gone away.

Born in Manhattan, New York, Joy Lloyd was recruited into Deveraux College at the age of fourteen after being spotted by a Selector Agent working undercover at her school. Soon after joining Bond Team, Joy met Ryan Young, and it wasn't long before she fell for her handsome, blond, green-eyed fellow Team Leader. Once they had started dating, Joy and Ryan became the metaphorical 'Golden Couple' of Deveraux College - they were both good-looking, both reasonably well off in life, both excellent spies and almost certain to marry and have equally good-looking children.

The reality, however, was somewhat different. Although Joy and Ryan did get married soon after they had graduated, Joy was mostly pushed into the marriage by her parents. It had transpired from their time together the kind of person that Ryan really was: controlling, egotistical, self-centred and, mainly due to having been shielded by his parents his whole life, completely ignorant to the problems of the world around him. Joy thought about divorcing Ryan all the time, but could never quite bring herself to do it - particularly not after she found out that she was pregnant with his child. Anna Young was born when Joy was twenty-four, but it only worsened the situation in the Youngs' household - Ryan became besotted with his young daughter and his behaviour towards Joy only seemed to worsen.

Two months later, Joy was back in her native New York on a mission when she met and fell in love with a man named Miguel Rodriquez. Not wishing to leave Ryan because of Anna, who absolutely adored her father, Joy extended her mission and had a long affair with Miguel, out of which a young girl was born. Joy decided to name her Lilith, to reflect her desire to never be controlled by a man again as she was by Ryan. Joy's happiness, however, was short-lived.

Whilst on a mission to Florida, mere months after Lilith was born, the Youngs' cover was blown and Ryan Young was killed. Joy's only alternative, if she wanted to stay alive, was to fake her death and go into hiding. Having never forgiven her own parents for forcing her into her marriage, Joy entrusted one-year-old Anna to the care of Ryan's parents, Mildred and George Young, and left Miguel to take care of two-month-old Lilith. Joy was transferred to Region Slate, where she took the alias of Leah Smith and has been one of Deveraux's best assets in Toronto ever since.
