Matthew Wheel

Black hair that grows abnormally fast. Eyes are a brownish green. Set shoulders, but jaw is far from straight and goes in at a 45 degree angle. He's about 5'10'' and 160 lbs. He's far from physically striking but his personality more than makes up for it.

Matthew can be likeable sometimes and very hateable at others. It largely depends on the personality of the others, rather than Matthew himself. Matthew can't help being a love him/hate him kind of guy. However, even those who absolutely detest him are sometimes inclined to laugh at the jokes he makes. He's pretty noble, also. When he was seven, a guy got his lace caught in a light train-track. Matthew was passing on his way home and saved the guy at great personal risk. The guy thanked Matthew and Matt was rewarded handsomely. The all-seeing eye of Deveraux picked this up with their satellites. Matthew can have a short fuse and is exceedingly competitive; he hates being bad at anything, and even worse he hates being good at something and still losing. You don't want to be around if anyone beats Matthew at shooting. He's mediocre with mêlée weapons, but Spy High training has at least boosted his physical strength somewhat, so he's not totally weak at close quarters.

Matthew never really thought he was anything special. He was above average in terms of IQ and could spell pretty well, but physically he just wasn't all that strong, about average. And he was slow. His reactions were pretty good. Then one day he went to a paintball party, and discovered he was an absolutely crack shot. Needless to say, there are Deveraux employees placed at nearly every paintball centre in the world since it is such a good indicator of marksmanship. Especially since hitting something with a paintball is much harder than with a bullet, what with the parabolic trajectory and all. Besides, Deveraux agents had had an eye on him ever since the life-saving incident. At thirteen, Matt went to a Duke of Edinburgh class, and to get his Bronze award he needed to pass a rifle shooting test. There was a Deveraux employee watching here, as well. Matthew aced the test, getting 94% accuracy; a Duke of Edinburgh record. The Selector had seen enough; Matthew was selected for Spy High.

(For those who don't know, Duke of Edinburgh is an awards system held in Britain where you can get Gold, Silver and Bronze awards. There are various areas and tests you need to pass: two day hikes, fire service, and obviously rifle shooting are just a start. Getting a Bronze, Silver or Gold award is a great thing to boast about and also goes on your CV when you finish school.)
