Description

About

Originally from Brooklyn, New York, the short-tempered Mickey Tannenbaum joined the Gargoyles as a teenager to earn extra money and eventually ended up dating fellow criminal Kate Birchfield. However, when Kate revealed to Mickey her plans to assassinate James Mann, instead of aiding her Mickey tipped James off, allowing his Leader go into hiding whilst Kate ended up killing the wrong man. Mickey then assumed the role of Leader within the Gargoyles and raked a significant profit in New York with James guiding him from the sidelines. Mickey, by then dating Morana Drake, eventually decided the Gargoyles should move into Boston not only to expand their criminal empire but also so he could personally exact revenge on Kate Birchfield. Having also developed an obsession with discovering the truth about Deveraux, Mickey's vengeance culminated in kidnapping Viola Madison and Rebecca Stanley, but his plan failed and he ended up being apprehended by the police. After a few months in prison, during which Mickey's sanity began to slip away, he was eventually released on lack of substantial evidence only to discover newly appointed Gargoyle Leader Morana Drake didn't have any intention of handing back power. In a final, desperate act to restore everything to what it once was, Mickey held Jamie Birchfield at gunpoint so that Kate would speak to him and, in the confrontation that followed, ended up committing suicide.

Appearance

Tall and good-looking, Mickey wears his short, blonde hair slicked back and styled with gel. He's well-toned, not excessively muscular, but gives off an impression of strength and, above all, power. His dark brown eyes are cold and unfeeling, whilst his laugh is loud, hearty, unabashed and unashamed. Mickey is often dressed in the most expensive suits money can buy, completing his look with designer sunglasses.

Personality

At the age of thirteen Mitchell - or Mitch, as he was known - was a fairly average high-school boy. He was never particularly good at any classes, failing especially at English and Math. The only aspect of his personality which was a shadow of what he was to become was Mitch's extremely short temper and tendency towards violence.

After Mitch became a member of criminal gang The Gargoyles and changed his nickname, that particular aspect of his personality only seemed to worsen. Extremely angry and easily jealous, he would fly off the handle at any guy who even looked at his girlfriend at the time, Kate Birchfield. He also developed an astounding ability to hold grudges and was often known to keep events and people who had upset him in mind for years, just waiting for an opportunity to retaliate.

Mickey's poor upbringing and his sufferance during childhood has made him extremely resentful of anybody born into a family with money. However, now that he is rich himself, he has had a taste of the fine life and absolutely adores everything about it. This developed into a self-loathing - Mickey adores being rich, but hates rich people and hates himself for having become one.

He is also extremely power hungry and, above all, loves having control because he believes he deserves it much more than the current, rich people who have it. He is Machiavellian and rarely remorseful of his actions, often rendering him cold and calculating.

History

Born in a rough neighbourhood in Brooklyn, New York, Mitch was taken out of school by his parents at the age of thirteen and told he needed to get a job. It turned out his parents were in deep financial trouble and it was the only way they could make ends meet. Mitch started off at a local supermarket, but soon became involved with the criminal underworld when he found it paid a lot better.

Mickey, as he was now known, joined criminal gang The Gargoyles soon afterwards, mainly dealing in drug and arms traffic. He met Kate Birchfield a year later and was tasked to show her the ropes when she initially joined. Although Mickey initially found this a burden, he eventually became friends with Kate and was the first to notice she had potential as a torturer. The two soon became a couple and gained notoriety amongst their own group for fearlessness and sheer efficiency in getting any job done. When off the job, they could often be found in nightclubs partying.

Around the time Mickey was nineteen, he and Kate were requested to meet with James Mann to obtain congratulations for their work and possibly a promotion. On the night before the meet was due to occur, Kate confessed she wanted to leave the Gargoyles and told Mickey she planned to kill James Mann in order to free herself from the gang. Mickey agreed, saying he would help her to do so. However, in reality, he contacted James Mann and warned him of the danger. James Mann set it up so Kate killed his second, Johnny Cunningham, believing him to be James. Afterwards, James went into hiding and resolved to help the Gargoyles through backchannels, indirectly. Mickey, on the other hand, became his front man and, most importantly, leader of the Gargoyles.

James Mann — Colleague

An intelligent man who nonetheless enjoyed a life seeped in violence, lust and cocaine, James managed to avoid being killed by Kate Birchfield when he was thirty but had to pay the price of going into hiding. When he re-emerged ten years later with the intention of becoming Leader of the Gargoyles once more, James not only ended up discovering he had a twenty-year-old daughter, Andrea Costigan, but also managed to convince an old friend of his, Colin Johnson, to reveal the illusive secret of Deveraux College. After James's fight with Jessica Ellie Steel during his invasion of Deveraux, the vast amount of money he had left for her in his will prompted his own daughter to shoot a bullet through his head.

Djamal Musambé — Employee (deceased)

Djamal acted as Second in Command for a period of time during which Mickey Tannenbaum was Leader of the criminal organisation known as the Gargoyles. Deciding that Djamal was slipping out of his control, Mickey Tannenbaum ordered his girlfriend Morana Drake to assassinate him.
