A wealthy businessman from Beacon Hill, Scott Stewart met Rachel Donovan at the age of twenty-four and the two were married when Rachel fell pregnant a mere six months later. Upon discovering the baby was a girl, Scott and Rachel decided to name her Katherine, although Scott himself would always refer to his unborn daughter as 'Kitty'. For reasons Rachel herself never fully understood, Scott hung himself six months into her pregnancy and never met his daughter, who was ultimately named Kitty instead.

For over ten years afterwards, she had a somewhat troubled love life that never went beyond the occasional awkward date - until she decided to take a chance on her co-worker Jim, whom she is now engaged to and shares an apartment with.
