Vari Cynthia Alexa Minjoung Chang

Vari is of Aleutian descent, though many people assume she is either from Russia or the Orient. She became angered by these assumptions, and took to dying her hair an eccentric shade of pink, though not the shades of pink associated with a punk rocker of the past. She is constantly finding new ways to style her hair; whilst many have been ridiculous flops, she cropped her hair short for practicality and to be different. She has pale green eyes and small lips. She stands at only 5'0", and despite the many surgeries on offer, she steadfastly refuses to change for anybody. She has three piercings in one ear and one in the other. The three in the one ear are regular silver studs/hoops, but the one on its own in her right ear was part of a new, niche market technological advance - they are unofficially called Mood Earrings, which change colour according to her feelings at that moment. Also, she has a piercing in her belly button. She likes to draw attention to herself; she wears ripped t-shirts and likes to adorn her jeans with obscenities and brash pictures. She is naturally pale, but is a big fan of spray tans and other cosmetics to change her skin colour, though due to health scares she rarely does this.

Vari is extremely loud, brash, and sometimes obnoxious. She is very oblivious to others' feelings and is a fan of extreme sarcasm. She's extremely unmoving when she is challenged on an issue, never gives in when arguing, and loves to humiliate any would-be suitors who try to woo her with pictures of animals and the like. She is not a cold hearted-person, though; she did her work experience at one of the last Soup Kitchens in her hometown, an experience that dragged her into new age punk rock circles. Despite the trashy image she gives off, Vari always cleans herself up before visiting her parents. Her family do not know about her secret life she leads, and assumed she grew out of the punk rocker phase, so explaining her recent hairstyle to her family is a constant source of worry. Family doesn't mean a great deal to Vari, but their opinions do.

Vari was born to Carry Chang and Veronica Castle in Newer Orleans (a new city founded by the fleeing people of New Orleans after another natural disaster - this time a hurricane, followed just days later by an earthquake, and to top it off, a human started fire that burned down most of the Southern parts of the city), a quiet and reserved couple who had met in law school and settled down to marry. They never got round to a wedding, so they thought having a child would work better instead. Eventually, when Vari was five, her parents married. On their honeymoon, her parents enjoyed their time in Hawaii so much that they bought a second home there and stayed there every summer. As Vari grew older, she began to hate missing out on wild parties in summer time, not seeing friends; the usual teenage disasters. So when she was fifteen, and went for her work experience in the Soup Kitchens, she served a homeless man. She was immediately taken with his grungy looks, something she hadn't come across before in her sheltered, conservative upbringing at her middle class school. They connected immediately, and he invited her to a gig. There, she was introduced to all his friends, and within a matter of weeks, Vari had turned into a punk rocker. The homeless guy - Kyle - became her first steady boyfriend, and eventually she wanted to leave home to live with him, but knew this was impractical as he was homeless. Kyle's underground connections dragged Vari away from her ambitions of living an honest life some day, and she soon found herself immersed in the world of the Delegates of Themis.
